Today, I was selecting pictures from the internet for my object and sprites. The selection process was not hard and I can get it finish quickly. The main pictures I was looking for are mainly cartoon. Cartoon was mainly used for the main character and the landscape which include natural scenery. I was a bit struggling when looking for cartoon that would be used for main character. It quite took a bit of time to search for cartoon that had traditional aspect of my chosen province. But then, I find the appropriate time and it was quite attractive. I also did not forget of keeping track of sources when I took pictures from the internet. I decided that that will be extra room in which I would put all the sources I had been using. I did not want to take pictures from the creator without giving credit to them because it was just the same as stealing. I tool several quite good pictures, and for some pictures, I did not forget to erase the background of it so that it would not appear in the game. I also make the bubble quote for the main character. Instead of using bubble, I used a square instead because using bubble was too wide for the game. After selecting the pictures, and editing them, I compile them into one folder first. I also collected several sound effect and theme song that I’ll be using in the game to make it more interesting. Wednesday 22 October 2014 Today, I started designing the background of the room just I like planned before. I started compiling the pictures that will make a storyline, including the cartoon of the main character and natural landscape. Once I finished designing the background, I took screenshot of it. There was a change of plan, and I started working with game maker today instead of the following day. I used the background for the room but it turned out that the picture was a a bit blurry. Then, I decided to use each picture as objects and sprites while the natural scenery as the background. This way, the picture will look more sharp and clear. Today, I decided only to finish the storyline. I decided that I will finish the maze later. My current progress was about 50%. After finishing the storyline and giving command for each sprites, I decided to give command to the theme song I will be using. I will set the theme song will be played from beginning till the end. I wanted to use certain sound effects but it does not really work because the sound was smaller than the theme song so it cannot be heard. There were also some changes in the layout of the storyline Saturday 25 October 2014 I started to make the mazes. There are 4 levels in total. The way I promote my island through this video game is that I use traditional song of Java which was “Suwe Ora Jamu” as the theme song of this video and to make it more interesting. The main character of this game also used traditional clothe of Java, which was the blankon. I also promoted the tourism places in Java, which are Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple, and Taman Nasional Ujung Kulong. I hope that through this game, the gamers are encourage to explore more about the culture of Java and visit those tourism place. Making the maze was quite hard. There are a bit changes in the design of the maze compare to the design in storyboard because it turns out that the space for each room was not that big. I was about to change the size for the wall, but i changed my mind because it will only make it small and the gamers will have trouble looking at the maze. Once the main character size has been set, then adjusting the space is easy between the wall. I was a bit confused what background should I set for Prambanan and Borobudur maze. I could not find any appropriate background that match with the wall. Find the background for Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon Maze is easy because the walls are forest and the background I put was grass. So I finally decided to put green background as the background for the temple maze in real life, both temple are surrounded by forest. I finished all the 4 mazes and give command for each sprites and objects Monday 27 October 2014 Today, I worked on the bibliography of all the pictures that I used. Those pictures were not mine and it was important to give credits to it and put the information on the game, so that gamers know that the pictures were not mine. If I did not put the credit, it is just the same as stealing and I did not want that. Of course, I can easily make the bibliography for each picture because I keep track of the website where I take the pictures. Every time I take a picture, I always put the website url in a document. Using MLA format, I cite my images and then arrange it in alphabetical order. I decided to add another room to put the bibliography. Rather than making a choice for the gamers to see the bibliography, I rather want the gamers to see the bibliography. So instead putting a choice in a game whether they want to see the bibliography or not, I directly insert another a room after ending and before the room to restart the game. No matter what, I wanted the gamers to see the bibliography I used so far. I also decided to put the bibliography as the background of the room. I compile all my citation into one document then I take screenshot of it, and put it as the background. Wednesday 29 October 2014 My game finished sooner than I expected. With this, I had more time to finalize my game. I checked several flaws and errors in the game and fix it. I wanted the gamers to feel the joy of playing game and not experiencing the errors. I checked every commands for each object and run the game over and over until the game becomes like I wanted. In the end, I completed my game. I hope that the gamers can enjoy this game, and they can improve their developmental area, specifically fine motor skill and analytical thinking skill. I also hope that I can promote my island through this game by putting several aspects of my island in that game. |
